Kano State has developed the second State Health Sector Strategic Plan for 2023 with the plan to complete the cancer centre, four emirate hospitals and establishment of an ICT centre in the Ministry of Health as key priorities.
The state commissioner for health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, who disclosed this in Kaduna during the state’s Annual Operational Planning (AOP) for Health Sector, said Kano might allocate more to healthcare in the 2023 budget to address the outbreak of new diseases like monkeypox.

“Before the coming of this administration, the health sector had only six per cent allocation in the state budget. However, with continuous evidence-based AOP development and the political will of His Excellency (Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR (Khadimul Islam), allocation to the health sector in the state budget rose to 15 per cent in 2019 and was sustained in 2020. Despite the current economic challenges, Kano State has achieved above 15 per cent allocation to the health sector in 2021 (16%) and 2022 (17%).
