Kano SUBEB inaugurates enrolment drive committee

In a bid to increase children’s school enrolment in Kano state, the
State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has inaugurated an Enrolment
Drive Campaign (EDC) at state and local government levels
respectively.

The SUBEB’s Chairman, Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim Bagwai said the committee
was inaugurated in 15 pilot local governments and would be extended to
cover the whole state in due course, adding that members of the
committee were expected to come up with strategies that would increase
school enrolment and promote participation of stakeholders at
community levels.

Inaugurating the Nassarawa local government EDC, Nassarawa Education
Secretary Malam Musa Haruna said the committee would provide prompt
and systematic approach of improving school enrolment in the local
government.

He said the committee comprises representative from ministry for women
affairs, budget and planning, agency for mass education, Civil Society
Organizations (CSOs), School Base Management Committee (SBMC),
National Union of Teachers among others.

The committee is expected to work closely with the traditional
institutions to achieve the targeted objectives.
