A statement signed by the Director General, Directorate of Research and Documentation, Kano Government House, Malam Ibrahim Ado Kurawa, said the deputy governor made the disclosure in Kano at the opening ceremony of the 2009 Retreat for the members of the House of Representatives. Gwarzo stated that the administration was committed to the promotion of legislature-executive understanding in the state as they had since introduced a policy that allowed the people, through their representatives, to participate in project selection through the execution of Constituency Projects.

He noted that it would be in their collective interest if all arms and tiers of government worked harmoniously with each other to ensure the welfare of the greatest number of Nigerians and restore the dignity of the country through the conduct of free and fair elections.

Engineer Gwarzo revealed further that in the absence of the legislature-executive harmony in the country, “there would be lack of peace and harmony in the country and the comity of democratic nations would continue to regard Nigeria as a crippled giant”.

According to him, Kano is one of the few states that tolerate opposition parties as democratic partners, adding that the opposition parties in the state were able to win some local government seats during the last council polls, contrary to the outcome of similar circumstances in other states of the federation.

The deputy governor, who also observed that the cordial relation has led to remarkable success in human and infrastructural development in the state, cited the construction of the 150mld Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, which he described as the largest treatment plant in the whole of West Africa sub region, and the construction of several urban road projects covering over 92 kilometres.

He observed that the state had so far constructed more secondary schools and initiated more projects in the education sector than any other state in Nigeria has done, just as he added that the government was engaged in a private-public sector partnership, in the construction of a N15 billion Kanawa Trade Centre Project, which is expected to be the largest market project in Nigeria.
