Speaking while distributing the tools, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, said the state government was committed to making the environment safer and healthier for the well-being of its residents, hence the need to improve the welfare of the staff to do more.

He said the equipment and tools were purchased at the rate of N5.7m and that they would ensure that they were maintained and used appropriately to keep the state clean.

He further said, “These people are working tirelessly day and night to keep our environment clean. That is why we decided to support them with safety materials that will protect them and also equipment that will aid their work.

“The state government is spending over N800,000 every day to buy 1,000 litres of diesel for waste removal across the state. All these are done to ensure a safer environment for the people in the state.”

He, therefore, urged the sweepers to ensure that they used the tools judiciously and continued working for the environment to be clean, adding that their salaries would keep coming every month.

Speaking on behalf of the sweepers, Aminu Muhammad appreciated the state government for the gesture, saying that with the new equipment and tools their work would become easier.
