The Office of the Special Adviser on SDGs to the governor of Kano state, Barr. Habib Yahaya Hotoro, has launched the first training Workshop for Kano State SDGs Desk Officers and other MDAs on Data Collection, Monitoring and Evaluation and System Strengthening for policy planning and tracking the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.
The training, was sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs).
Speaking at the event, Habib Hotoro, who is also the focal person of the SDGs in Kano, said the training is designed to equip participants with the appropriate knowledge and skills necessary for efficient service delivery in the conduct of their assignment.
He added that it is expected that at the end of the training, the participants drawn from various MDAs, will be proficient in data collection as well as monitoring and evaluation, which are the bedrock for effective planning and policy formulation.
“Each of the desk officers will be given a template that will guide their works and report back to us on quarterly basis. After two quarters we will produce a report and that will be tagged as Kano State SDGs Watch and that will give us an idea how the state is going irrespective of each particular SDG goal or indicator,” he said.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the president on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Oreolope Adefulire commended the state governor for his effort in actualizing the goals of the SDGs in the state, adding that the training is intended to integrate the SDGs into the state policies and programs.
According to her, “Some of the achievement of the SDGs in Kano state include the comprehensive renovation of Murtala Muhammad General Hospital, renovation of Abdullahi Wase Hospital, renovation of Infectious Diseases Hospital, renovation of Imam Abubakr Urology Clinic and construction of Primary Healthcare and renovation of primary schools across the state.”
