Kano re-run: Police assure residents of safety

Kano state police command has assured residents of the state capital of adequate security before, during and after the forth-coming gubernatorial re-run election in some selected polling units in the state.

The March 9th governorship election was declared inconclusive by the independent national electoral commission on the basis that the margin between the two front runners Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf of the PDP and the incumbent governor and candidate of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was less than total rejected votes.

Speaking to Chronicle police spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna said the command would receive reinforcement from neighbouring states to be on top of security situation during the electioneering period.

He said there would be restriction of movement across the entire state during the period.

“We are ready for the forth-coming re-run. In fact the security formation for the exercise is going to be more re-enforced than what was obtained during the general elections. We are going to get some re-enforcement from neighbouring states like Jigawa and Katsina so there will be no any security breach. On that day there will be restriction of movement in the entire state,” he said.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Wakili had met with various stakeholders in the areas where the re-run is going to be conducted with a view to ensuring smooth and peaceful exercise.

He appealed the residents to cooperate with the police by conducting themselves peacefully during and after the exercise.
