No fewer than 3,000 Muslims in Kano, yesterday, held a prayer session for peace in the country during the 2023 general elections.
The prayer was held at Gwani Danzarga Mosque in Koki quarters of Kano under the aegis of Kuran Reciters Association of Nigeria (KURAN), Youth and Women Political Awareness (YOWPA) and Amalgamated Traders Association of Nigeria (AMATA).
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of KURAN, Gwani Lawi Gwani Danzarga, told newsmen that the prayer was held for peace in the country and peaceful, fair and credible general elections in view of increasing fears, anxiety and tension in the buildup to the polls.
“Everyone is aware of the current insecurity facing the country and the 2023 general elections are approaching so we need to conduct a special prayer for peaceful coexistence in the country,” he said.
“As Muslims, we believe that there is nothing the Almighty cannot solve. So what we have done is to call Muslims to come and submit it to God to choose the right leader for us who will take the responsibility of governing our country.
“God knows our situation, we submit to Him to choose who can lead us right and take the nation to greater heights irrespective of where he comes from. And we pray this coming election to be peaceful and successful.”
In her remarks, the chairperson of YOWPA, Hajiya Asmau Sarki Mukhtar, said they collaborated with other organisations to sensitise the teeming youths and women in the state on participation in politics.
“We created awareness for the youths not to allow themselves to be used to perpetrate violence and disrupt the elections,” she said.
She also urged political actors to fear God and conduct themselves peacefully before and during the elections.
