Four-time winners of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the Kano Pillars have suffered their first defeat after losing 1-0 away to Malumfashi FC.
Williams’ goal in the 29th minute gave Malumfashi, who had been considered the underdogs heading into the match, the victory.
Pillars have gone undefeated in their previous two games in the second-tier league as they prepare to return to the NPFL.
Pillars were relegated from the NPFL to the NNL last season as a result of poor performance.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars Coach Evans Ogenyi said after the victory against Sokoto United that the target is to pick an NPFL ticket.
“Pillars is a historic side with great followership, I am proud of my players, who did so well to ensure we won here. Our resolve was not to leave Sokoto empty, we got a good fight from Sokoto. We are going back to prepare better for our next game to be better,” he said.
