A Federal High Court in Kano State has sentenced one Salisu Tanko to seven years imprisonment for sexually abusing two under-aged girls.
Tanko was arraigned before the court by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) after he was arrested on September 11.
He was said to have lured the two girls into his uncompleted building located at Bajallabe Quarters in Gwale LGA, where he defiled them and gave them the sum of N500.
He was charged with sexual exploitation under section 16(1) of the trafficking in persons (prohibition) act 2015.
Delivering her judgment, Justice Saadatu Ibrahim Mark, imposed a fine of N1m on the convict, failure for which he will get an additional one year imprisonment.
Reacting, the Kano zonal commander of NAPTIP, Desmond Garba, lauded the judgment which he said would serve as a deterrent to others.
He assured the people of the command’s readiness to continue to work towards addressing child trafficking and other related matters.
