The gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State and his counterpart in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have pledged to participate in the gubernatorial debate to be organised by Media Trust Limited (MTL), the parent company of Daily Trust, Aminiya and Trust TV.

The candidates: Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf (NNPP) and Salihu Tanko Yakasai (PRP), gave the commitments on Tuesday when the chairman of the MTL Debate Planning Committee, Dr Suleiman A. Suleiman, led a team to their offices.

Tagged ‘Trust Nigeria 2023 Elections Debate’, the debate is expected to give political parties and their candidates for the upcoming general elections the opportunity to get their plans and agenda across to the voters, Suleiman said during the visits.

Responding, the deputy governorship candidate of NNPP, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who represented Yusuf, said, “We are looking forward to the debate”.

He also commended the Media Trust Group for all its initiatives to enrich national discourse.

“We hope this (debate) will go a long way in enriching our democratic culture and enlighten people, the masses, to understand exactly who they are going to vote for and why they will vote for him.

“By this initiative, you (Media Trust) are helping the masses and politicians to understand all the candidates, their characters and what they have in store for the people.

“It is not just about campaigning and fighting for office, but what are you coming with or what have you done in the past. We are confident, you won’t be disappointed,” he said.

Also speaking, Yakasai said he was not only assuring of participation but also a performance that would leave other candidates in awe and see him declared winner because of the blueprint he and his party have for the people of Kano State.

“2023 election seems to be taking a different dimension because we have Trust TV putting up a debate even for the governorship candidates and other organisation also trying to make the campaign issue-based. This is welcome development. We have a plan and we are working on it and I can guarantee you that even though the debate is still months away, I will be the winner,” he said.

Similarly, the Commissioner of Police, Kano Command, Abubakar Lawal, as well as the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhassan Muhammad, assured of their support for the debate, promising to ensure adequate security before, during and after the event.

They gave this commitment when the MTL team paid them courtesy visits in their respective offices.

Those in the Media Trust Group’s team for the visitations included the General Manager, Northern Operations, Malam Abdullahi Mainasara, the Bureau Chief of the Kano region, Clement A. Oloyede, and the Head of Sales and Circulation, Hassana Alfa.

Meanwhile, the team is expected to meet with the gubernatorial candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and Action Democratic Party (ADP), among others, as well as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) today and Thursday.
