Kano NHRC received 138 complaints in 2 months

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has said that it received 138 complaints of alleged human rights abuses and violations in the past two months.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the Coordinator of NHRC in Kano, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed that the cases were recorded between May and June, 2023.

He said that 105 of the cases had been treated, while the remaining 33 were pending.

He further said, “95 of the cases bordered on abandonment of family responsibility, nine on access to children, 10 on domestic violence and four were on rape.

“The remaining 20 cases received during the period under review are on labour rights, unlawful arrest and detention, among others.

“We also received a series of marital complaints and other family related issues. We successfully intervened in solving a lot of them, while for the ones we couldn’t treat here, we referred them to other relevant places.”
