A Kano Shari’a Court sitting in Gama, Nasarawa LGA, has ordered the remand of one Rabiu Zakari in a correctional centre for allegedly obstructing a public servant while discharging his lawful duty.

Zakari, who lives at Gama Quarters in Kano, is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of his duty, assault and possession of hard drugs suspected to be hemp.

The prosecutor, Mr Aliyu Abideen, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 19 at Badawa Quarters, Kano.

He alleged that on the same date, at about 1:30 am, a team of police personnel attached to the Badawa police division in Kano arrested the defendant while on patrol.

“The defendant was found in possession of cannabis Sativa and Diazepam tablet.

“After his arrest, the suspect escaped but was later rearrested; he slapped the DCO and assaulted the DPO of Badawa Police Division.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to one of the charges but denied the others.

Abideen said the offences contravened sections 120, 313, 343 and 330 of the Kano State Shari’a Penal Code.

The presiding judge, Mallam Nura Yusuf Ahmad, ordered the defendant’s remand in prison custody and adjourned the matter to February 1, for hearing.
