Kano man remanded for posing as customs officer

A Kano State Shari’a court presided over by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has ordered the remand of one Umar Muhammad (26) in a correctional centre for parading himself as an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to defraud people.

Muhammad, a resident of Bachirawa, Ungogo LGA, ‘arrested’ and fraudulently impounded 24 bags of rice from one Umar Muhammad (complainant) on July 10.

The prosecutor, Aliyu Abiddeen Murtala, told the court that the defendant also forced the complainant to bail his vehicle with the sum of N80,000 or risk seizure of the vehicle.

The prosecutor informed the court that during investigation, a full set of customs uniform and police identify card were recovered in his possession.
