A Kano Sharia Court sitting in Fagge Local Government Area of the state metropolis has remanded a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Shehu, for alleged possession of 39 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The defendant, who resides in Kwana Hudu, in Kano metropolis is facing a count charge of being in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Although the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, the judge, Bello Khalid, ordered him to be remanded in a correctional centre.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Abdul Wada, told the court that the defendant on Feb. 22 at Kwana hudu Quarters was arrested during surveillance patrol.
He said on the same date at about 8:00pm, the defendant was found in possession of 39 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Kano State Sharia Law.
The judge adjourned the matter to March 14, for sentence.
