Kano man arrested for attempting to kill girlfriend

The police in Kano State have arrested a 25-year-old man, Abdulrahman Muhammad Yahaya, for attempting to kill his 32-year-old girlfriend, Binta Alhassan, by beating her to a stupor in Jogana town of Gezawa Local Government Area.

Narrating her ordeal, Binta said they had not been communicating for about two weeks only for Yahaya to come after her in their family compound.

She said, “He untied my mosquito net and started beating me, while telling me he had been waiting for me. Our neighbours came to my rescue. He jumped over the fence and ran away.”

During interrogation by the police, Yahaya said, “I smoke weed and cigarettes, I only quarreled with her, but never threatened to stab her to death, but I regret my action.”

Confirming the arrest, the spokesman of the police in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect, while in possession of a jack knife, scaled Binta’s fence and attempted to kill her after beating her to a stupor.
