The Kano State Independent National Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has rescheduled the forthcoming local government councils election to November 30 from the October 26 earlier announced.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, announced the new date during an emergency stakeholders meeting, on Friday.
Malumfashi said the decision to adjust the date was because of the supreme Court judgement on local government financial autonomy.
The electoral umpire sought understanding and adherence to the new date by political parties and other stakeholders.
KANSIEC had earlier fixed N10 million and N5 million naira as nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship positions.
Campaigns for the election are to commence from September 1st while sales of nomination forms begin on September 16th.
Submission of forms and verification of candidates are slated for September 27th while substitution of candidates by political parties is allowed till October 18th, according to the commission.
Malumfashi said the election results would be declared immediately after counting of the votes and runoff is fixed for November 9th.
