The Kano/Jigawa area command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) yesterday announced that it generated over N3 billion revenue in the first quarter of this year, describing it as the highest it has so far recorded.
This was disclosed by the Kano/Jigawa Custom Area Comptroller, Mathias Abutu, during the first quarter customs/community consultative forum meeting at the commands secretariat in Kano.
According to him, the increase in revenue generated within the quarter has been the highest so far recorded in the command’s history.
He added that, that was been achieved as a result of the cooperation the command has been receiving from the business community.
“The command’s revenue generation has risen to over N1 billion per month since January. This is to say that we have generated over N3 billion so far in the last three months.
“This positive development wouldn’t have been possible without the existing mutual understanding between the business communities and the service,” the area comptroller said.
Most of the participants at the meeting raised issues of non-uniformity of duties collected by the custom service especially on imported items, and urged the NCS to device measures that would ensure uniformity in the duties charged.
