Kano Islamic praise singer remanded for defaming sect leader

A Kano State Sharia court sitting in PRP Gama has remanded a popular Islamic praise singer, Malam Usman Mai Dubun Isa, in prison for allegedly uttering words that are injurious to the character of one of the leaders of the Tijjaniyya Movement in the state, Tijjani Usman Bare-Bari.

When the prosecution counsel, Aliyu Abideen read the charge against him, he pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer, A. J. Usman, prayed the court to admit him to bail.

The prosecution counsel told the court that admitting the defendant to bail would be dangerous to his life as the followers of the cleric had threatened to injure or kill him.
