Kano State government invoked the state’s Private and Voluntary Institutions Law 2014 to enforce compliance to compulsory 25% reduction on third term fees charged by private schools in the state.
The state government had said the discount was to cushion the effect of the hardship occasioned by COVID-19 on the parents.

But some private school owners in the state had said they would not comply with the directive.
The state government invoked sections 7(a), 28 and 29(3) of the law to empower the state Executive Secretary, Private and Voluntary Institutions Board to enforce compliance to compulsory 25% reduction on third term school fees.
The Commissioner for Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Kiru had threatened to cancel third term if the owners of private schools in the state fail to comply with the directive.
A memo, dated November 5th, by the permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Education, Lauratu Ado Diso, charged the executive secretary of the board to ensure total compliance with no exception and to report back to the commissioner in due course.
