Kano Gov’t returns 15 girls’ secondary schools to boarding status

Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State says his administration has restated the boarding status of 15 girls’ secondary schools removed by the immediate past administration in the state.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Bature Tofa, in a statement on Monday, said Yusuf disclosed this during an unscheduled inspection of Government Girls Secondary School, in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.

The governor expressed dismay over the de-boarding of the girls’ school, adding that many talented girls’ academic pursuits were halted by the action.

He instructed the Ministry of Education to as a matter of urgency, post English Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences teachers to the school.

The governor said rehabilitation work had already commenced for the re-boarded schools to resume academic activities in the next school calendar.

He said the State government would not relent in building and rehabilitation more classrooms and equipping them for a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in schools across the state.

Yusuf restated his administration`s commitment to implement the full components of the declaration of a state of emergency on education in the state.

The governor, who also inspected work on the five km Albasu road which is 98 per cent completed, expressed delight at the level of work done.

He urged the contractor to speed up and complete the remaining work as soon as possible. (NAN)
