Kano Govt prosecuting N5.4bn corruption cases – Gov Yusuf 

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf has disclosed that his government is prosecuting cases involving the embezzlement of N5,436,000,000 on different occasions in the state.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, the governor disclosed this when he received a delegation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a courtesy visit.

Represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Governor Yusuf gave a breakdown of the alleged fraudulent cases before the court to include, “N4,000,000,000 of Kano state funds siphoned through the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company.

“Another case involves N436,000,000 of stealing government funds under the pretext of procuring longer-lasting mosquito treatment nets. Equally, a N1,000,000,000 case of diverted funds stolen under the guise of renovating 30 roads within the metropolitan areas.”

The governor acknowledged the challenging task of combating corruption, maladministration, and injustice, “particularly in a state with a history of kleptocrats in power”, adding that Kano is the only state investigating and prosecuting five grand corruption cases within the first six months of the NNPP-led administration.

Highlighting his administration’s determination, Governor Yusuf said “sometimes, my attorney general personally appears in court during those trials to demonstrate the administration’s commitment to rid the state of corruption.”

Earlier Speaking, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC, thanked the governor, noting that the commission was in Kano for the management retreat.

Reflecting on the past collaboration between ICPC and the Kano State PCACC in terms of training, the chairman sought continued partnership with the agency in the collective effort to combat corruption.
