Police in Kano State have arrested a notorious internet fraudster, Aliyu Hussaini, who sent rags and tattered mosquito nets to a Plateau woman that ordered wrappers from him through Facebook.
The police said the suspect specialises in using WhatsApp and Facebook social media to advertise textile materials to defraud people.
Hussaini, who was caught in possession of a laptop and mobile phone trying to defraud another victim, has been arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Kano following a series of complaints lodged by 37 persons that the suspect also defrauded them of the sum of N1.1m
In a statement issued by Kano State Police Spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, a report was received on November 9, from a woman in Yelwa, Shandam, Plateau State, that one Facebook user with the account name “Aliyu Hussaini Salisu” displayed textile materials such as Lace, Shadda among others on his Facebook page for sale.
“She ordered for 14 different textile materials at 100 thousand naira and sent the money through Unguwa Uku Motor Park, Kano. But, instead of sending the materials, he packaged rags and tattered mosquito nets and sent to her,” the statement added.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, instructed a team of detectives led by DSP Mutari Jibrin Dawanau to arrest the suspect.
The statement added that during interrogation, the suspect revealed that he specialised in using WhatsApp and Facebook to advertise textile materials, collect people’s money and then either block their social media accounts and phone numbers or send rags to them.
He also confessed to have applied the same method to defraud about 37 people from different parts of the country, especially females that have passion for designers’ materials.
