Kano fire service saves 101, property worth millions lost

 

The Kano State Fire Service said it has saved 101 lives while property worth over N7 million was lost in the last one month in the state as a result of accidents.

Decrying rising deaths due to different disasters in Kano, the agency called on the general public to be more vigilant.

The Public Relations Officer of the service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, made the report available to newsmen in Kano. 

He said the service received a distress call on Monday that two vehicles were involved in an accident which claimed the lives of two, while three sustained injuries along Murtala Muhammad Way, in the state metropolis. 

Abdullahi added that another accident occurred at Sharada Kwanar Kasuwa where a private car and a motorcycle were involved in a clash that left many injured. 

He noted that as a result of rising deaths due to different disasters in Kano, eight people lost their lives due to drowning and road accidents in September. 

“The state fire service received 77 rescue calls, 21 fire alarms and 11 false alarms,” he added. 

 The service urged the general public to handle fire with care to avoid inferno, abide by traffic rules and be more vigilant on children and teenagers due to the high rate of drowning during local swimming.
