Arewa Film Makers Association of Nigeria (AFMAN) Kano chapter has conferred an award on Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in appreciation of what the association described as immense contribution ever given to the sector by any state government.
In an event organised by the association and held at the Kano State Government House, chairman of the association, Alhaji Jamilu Dakan Daka, stated that the association is not oblivious of the state government’s contributions towards the industry’s development, adding that the movie making industry’s history would never be complete without mentioning the assistance and contribution of the present Kano State government.
The chairman further revealed that the industry is indebted to the state government in ensuring that it contributes towards the success of the state.
“We have seen how a lot of our members were appointed into various positions in the state’s parastatals and agencies, one of which is the appointment of the head of Kano State Censorship Board. Obviously, to us in the industry, this is indeed a positive indicator that this government really recognizes our contribution in the society. However, we would want to use this opportunity to appeal to this responsible and responsive government to as a matter of continuity, pave way for skills and knowledge acquisition to members of the screen business to ensure effectiveness and professionalism in the sector,” pleaded Dakan Daka.
In his address, Governor Ganduje stated that it is disheartening that some people were complaining that his government has given so much priority to the movie making sector, adding that the appointment involving members of the movie industry has been based on professionalism and loyalty. The governor also revealed that the association should expect more as the journey progresses.
“We know what vital role you are playing in our communities and we will continue to support you for being one of the pillars of employment creation in the state. However, I will implore you to officially put your request forward and I assure you we will look into it and something will be done to see that we contribute towards the development of the industry and Kano State,” said Ganduje.
