Kano: Divorcees disagree over child’s ownership

A Shari’ah court sitting in Kano Filin has given a man, Mudassir Adamu, a resident of Sheka Quarters, his child after an ownership disagreement with his divorced wife.

The Khadi, Abdullahi Halliru Abubakar, held that the man had no reason to disown the child since he was formerly married to the woman.

Earlier, the husband argued that he lived with his ex-wife for a period of 16 days and that while they were together, she claimed to have been pregnant but after a test in the hospital, there was none.

He added that he was told by a third party that the pregnancy wasn’t his and that a member of her family said that she confirmed to him that she menstruated twice after they separated.

On her part, the divorced wife, Fatima Aminu Umar, also a resident of Sheka Quarters, claimed that they were married for five weeks and that she gave birth a year later.

Khadi Abubakar ordered the return of the child to the man since he could not establish and confirm if he had seen her with someone else.
