The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has said it has spent N60m on the repairs of 140 vandalized transformers.

The Company’s Head of Operation and Maintenance, Engineer Abdullahi Murtala Haruna made the disclosure yesterday while conducting journalists round the repaired transformers.

Haruna, who explained that affected transformers comprised 200KVA, 300KVA and 500KVA, also said another set of 50 pieces of damaged transformers had been placed for repairs and that would cost the company no less than N40m.

He said that the company had deployed the services of security agencies through formation of Task Force that comprises, police, civil defense and Hisbah officials to address the problem.

He added that KEDCO had also inaugurated a Transformer Community Committees (TCC) across the state with a view to help the company safeguard its facilities.

The company’s operation boss lamented that the incessant cases of vandalization in Kano has been one of the major hiccups affecting the company’s operations in the state.

“We are disturbed by the activities of vandals in Kano and that is why we adopted stringent measures to tackle the menace because we losing huge money to the vandals,” he said.

Engineer Haruna, thereof warned any person or group of persons caught in the act of vandalizing KEDCO’s facilities in the state would be dealt with decisively.
