Kano declares war on illicit drug abuse, phone snatching

The Kano State government’s committee on illicit drugs and phone snatching has warned miscreants that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will no longer tolerate abuse of illicit drugs and phone snatching in the state.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the committee, Brigadier General Gambo Mai’Adua (retd), at a press conference on the committee’s fight against the use of illicit drugs and phone snatching in the state.

According to him, a recent report that in every six people in the state one was using illicit drugs was disturbing, hence the move by the state government to wage a total war on all persons involved in the menace.

He explained that the committee, constituted by the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in October 2023, is working with other agencies that work around drug abuse and other related offences in ensuring that the rate of use of illicit drugs is being addressed, adding that the committee will also work with a mobile court that will speed up prosecution of offenders.

He also noted that the committee will target the rehabilitation of victims as well as possible reintegration into society.

“Fight against these menaces is not a responsibility of the government alone but a responsibility of all. It is believed that the earlier we fight the menace, the better for us and our society. The committee has a mobile court and is also aiming at rehabilitating victims and reintegrating them back into society.
