Kano CP honoured for sterling approach to policing, crime

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Kano Leadership, Enlightenment and Advocacy for Development Initiative (Kano LEADS), also known as Daruwana, has honoured the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, over his sterling leadership approach to policing and criminal matters in the state with the theme: “Kano Mun gode”.

Speaking, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Kano LEADS, Bashir Dalhatu, at a dinner organised in honour of the commissioner, said, Gumel’s approach to policing, which had so far yielded positive results on security, was a feat worth celebrating.

He said, “You have shown us that security is not just a job but a calling, and we are truly fortunate to have you as our CP. In a state as vast and populous as Kano, maintaining law and order is a monumental task. The complexity of our diverse communities, the challenges posed by rapid urbanization, and the ever-evolving nature of security threats make the role of the Police a formidable one.

Also speaking, the President of the organisation, Aisha Dankani, said, “First, the Commissioner’s initiative in converting 50 repentant thugs into police special constabulary out of the 222 rehabilitated earlier by the force stands as a beacon of transformation. These individuals, once involved in criminal activities, have turned their lives around and pledged to be agents of peace and security. This transformation fostered under the Commissioner’s guidance, has been a crucial step towards ridding our beloved state of the menace of thuggery and associated social vices.”

Earlier in his remark, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, commended the organisation for taking the lead in identifying and honouring the committed commissioner that positively transformed the policing architecture of the state through the employment of citizens.

Responding, the celebrant said Kano was his home and that it was a must to stand up and protect the integrity of the state to avert social vices and crime.
