Kano communities deplore bad roads, call for government’s intervention

Residents of Sitti, Massu and Gomo communities of Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State have called on the government to come to their aid by fixing dilapidated roads leading to the communities.

The communities, through their spokesman, Buhari Umar Gomo, directed the call specifically to the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Zubairu Hamza Massu, who hails from the area.

“We are appealing to the authorities concerned, especially the deputy speaker of the State House Assembly to look into the plight of thousands of commuters using this road. More than 200 people use it every day. It is very important to us and we are really suffering”, he said.

A businessman in one of the communities, who preferred to be anonymous, lamented that a bridge construction project connecting Sitti and Massu has been abandoned for over two years.

“The bridge is now a threat to many road users most especially those carrying goods to the markets. The construction started two years ago; it seems it has been abandoned,” he said.

He added that though the villagers lack other basic social amenities, their major concern for now is to have the access road in good shape.

He said, “There are many things the government has promised but none has seen the light of the day. The cholera epidemic is a good example of lack of potable water, and many other challenges that have generated many problems health-wise.

“We are calling on the government and authorities concerned to look into these issues”.
