Kano CJ releases 37 inmates on compassionate grounds

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, has ordered the release of 37 inmates from the Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kano.

Many of the released inmates were reported to be suffering from deteriorating health conditions, while others have been held for extended period without trial.

The chief judge noted that some had fallen ill while in custody and had not received adequate medical attention.

Justice Abdu-Aboki urged the freed inmates to maintain good behaviour and avoid any actions that could lead them back to criminal activities.

City & Crime reports that each of the released inmate was given N10,000 for transportation.

The Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Mr. Ado Inuwa, commended the chief judge for the gesture, which, he said, would help in addressing health issues among inmates and unjust detention.
