Kano children’s parliament breaks fast with Almajiris

Members of the Kano State Children’s Parliament have observed the break of Ramadan fast with scores of Almajiri boys in the state.

The gesture was aimed at bringing the less privileged children closer at a time they seem to be helpless and could only feed on alms and free food being distributed by well-to-do individuals.

Speaker of the parliament, Rt. Hon Hauwa Muhammad Ibrahim, said “This is part of our gestures towards the Almajiris who are living here with us while in search of Islamic education.

“They have left their states or villages and are facing a lot of challenges, especially with regards to food. That’s why we choose to break the fast with them and also share the little we have with them so that they can feel that they are also part of us.

“We are engaging about 50 Almajiri to feed. This is from contributions from friends and other members of the society. We reached out and we were supported. All our parliamentarians have supported through their parents also.”

She called on the state assembly to support the project, as well privileged members of the society as the Almajiri system needs support of all.
