The Kano State government has demanded data sources on the alleged consumption of three million bottles of codeine in the state and Jigawa made recently by a senator from Borno State.
The demand was made by the Special Assistant to the state Governor on Mobilization Against Drug Abuse Alhaji Nasidi Abdullahi Dorayi who insisted on a need for the senator to give accurate sources of his data to enable both states to take action.
“I read with dismay how the figures were gotten, I am sure that such figures were formulated as we have checked with all relevant authorities but couldn’t get confirmation; we would be more grateful if the sources of the figures can be revealed to us,” he said.
He said the state government under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had adopted various strategies aimed at addressing the rate of drug abuse and had recorded significant drop in the state.
He added that the state government has constituted two strong committees that comprises the National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency with other security agencies in its attempt to fight.
