Kano, Benue, Jigawa govs sign 2025 budgets

The governors of Kano, Benue and Jigawa states have signed the budgets of their respective states into law on Tuesday.

State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N719 billion into law.

Daily Trust reported that the governor had presented the sum of N549,755,417,663 before the state’s House of Assembly on November 8, 2024.

However, the Assembly on Tuesday approved the 2025 Appropriation Law to the tune of N719,755,417,663, containing an increase of N170 billion.

According to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, the total expected receipts for the year 2025 are estimated at N549,160,417,663, out of which the sum of N75,718,779,890 is to be generated internally (IGR).

Speaking shortly after signing the law, Governor Yusuf said the budget “aims to empower communities and stimulate economic growth.

“It also prioritises education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, and social welfare so as to address poverty and create opportunities for all of us, especially the younger generation.”

Similarly, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State signed the 2025 budget of Human Capital Development, Food Security, and the Digital Economy, estimated at N550.1 billion into law.

During the signing, which coincided with the launching of the state’s much-anticipated 10-year development plan as well as the launch of the State Nutrition Policy, and the State Social Protection Policy, at the Benue State Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia described the event as a pivotal moment in his effort to ensure a brighter, more prosperous future for the state.

”The signing into Law of the 2025 budget, the formal launch of the 10-year Development Plan and these critical policies mark the beginning of a new chapter in our state’s story.

“We are laying the groundwork for a future where every citizen has the opportunity to succeed, to live in dignity, and to contribute to the growth of our state.

On his part, Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State signed the N698.3 billion 2025 budget into law with 76 per cent capital expenditure.

Governor Namadi said the budget aimed to develop Jigawa State’s infrastructure and human capital.

“This year’s budget of N698.3 billion is the highest budget in the history of Jigawa State which aimed to restructure the state into a greater state,” he said.
