Kano, Bauchi emirates to hold Sallah durbar

The Kano Emirate Council has said that it will hold the traditional durbar to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr in Kano State.

It will be the first historic durbar that Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero will host since his ascension of the emirate’s throne in March last year.

In 2020, COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the state to suspend his coronation and even the subsequent Sallah durbar as part of measures to contain further spread of the deadly virus.

The emirate council in a letter sent to all its District Heads and sighted by Daily Trust also ordered them to start converging at the palace from yesterday Monday.

“You are hereby directed to enter Kano with all your village heads, palace guards and horses on Monday, Ramadan 28, 1442 A.H, equivalent to May 10, 2021, to commence this year’s Eidul Fitr durbar celebration” reads part of the letter.

The letter signed by Awaisu Abbas Sanusi on behalf of the Council’s Secretary also asked all the traditional rulers to meet on Tuesday at the Emir’s palace for briefing from the Emir.

Bauchi emirate makes U-turn over Sallah durbar

Meanwhile, barely less than 24 hours after announcing the cancellation of the traditional Sallah Dabar on security concerns, the Bauchi Emirate Council has made a u-turn and expressed readiness to hold the event.

The emirate councilor disclosed the decision on Monday in Bauchi in a statement signed by Madakin Bauchi and Chairman of Durbar Committee, Dr Baba Muhammad Gidado.

The statement noted that the Emir of Bauchi and his District Heads would ride their horses from Kofar Wambai through Central market roundabout, Unguwan Jaki, to the emir’s palace.

The statement said the Eid prayer would be held at Central Mosque beside the emir’s palace in the event of rainfall.

However, the Katsina Emirate has banned traditional Sallah Durbar for this year’s Eid-el-fitr due to the security situation in the state.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Secretary to the emirate council and Sarkin Yakin Katsina, Alhaji Bello Ifo.
