Kano-based firm launches Internet-free education app

A Kano-based business firm has launched an educational app, the Yoda Box Player to give children in primary school access to over 1,400 high-quality explainer videos on several topics covering science, social studies, phonics, grammar and composition.

According to the co-founder of Yoda Box Educational Resources (Yoda Box), Anas Yazid Balarabe the app was specially designed to make learning at home comfortable and easy, catering for different types of learners at different learning stages.

He said the motivating factor behind creating the app was to bridge the learning gap faced by students especially at nursery, primary and secondary levels.

He said the app could play videos without the Internet, thereby saving parents substantial data costs.

“Yoda Box is an offline tutoring assistant preloaded with resources to help children’s educational pursuits. You do not need to be online to access Yoda Box; once you subscribe, it is always available. You can have it on your mobile phone or computer for your children,” he said.

Speaking at the event, one of the parents, Stella Dako, said the app was a lifesaver as it helped children and give them an opportunity to learn more.

One of the students at the event also said the app helped him to understand more and made him to feel more confident.

The app was created by Yazid, a tech entrepreneur; Bilkisu Salem, an educationist and Abdulkadir Nuhu, a filmmaker.
