The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to take urgent and decisive action to address the severe water scarcity in Kanye Village, located in Kabo Local Government Area, following a cholera outbreak that has claimed seven lives and left many others hospitalised.
The outbreak is believed to have been caused by residents consuming contaminated water from an open well.
During a plenary session, Ayuba Labaran, the assembly member representing Kabo, presented a motion of urgent importance, stressing the need to provide the affected community with access to safe drinking water.
He urged the state government to immediately repair the Gude Water Works, which supplies water to several communities, including Gari, Balam, Godiya, Kanye, as well as parts of Kano and Rimin Gado local government areas.
