Kano architects to address building collapse

The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Kano State chapter, has said it is determined to address the problem of building collapse and other issues associated with building and construction in the state.

At the 2022 Biennial General Meeting of the Kano chapter of the institute, the Chairman, Bashir Hassan Hanga, said the chapter is concerned about the recent incidents of building collapses and the proliferation of buildings in the state, hence, the need to address them.

He said, “It is no longer news on the emergence of new buildings in the state and the happenings we witnessed. So, we felt there was a need to come together and seek areas of collaboration with other parties involved in building and construction to create sustainable solutions.

“The issues of flooding and drainages among others, are directly related to the lack of collaboration with engineers and all other workers on the field and that is why we are having problems. We lack collaboration.”

Presenting a paper titled, “Collaboration skills for optimal problems – solving in building construction,” Babangida Idi Danfulani, an architect, stressed the need to imbibe the spirit of support and teamwork in order to rescue the construction industry from incompetency.

“If you can see, all over the country, there are issues in construction and unfortunately, due to certain factors, you end up having problems.”

He, therefore, charged all stakeholders to synergise so as to avert the emerging issues associated with building and construction, especially in Kano State.
