Kano: APC, NNPP leaders urged to maintain peace before, after S/Court judgement

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State have been urged to maintain peace before and after the Supreme Court judgement on the state governorship election.

Recall that the Court of Appeal had recently sacked the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of the NNPP, and declared Nasir Gawuna of the APC, as winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state, but Yusuf had filed an appeal at the Supreme Court.

Since then there have been protests and anxiety among supporters and leaders of the two parties in the state.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, National Secretary of Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Democracy, Otunba Eniola Enaife, said apart from the APC and NNPP, they were equally monitoring leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) to ensure peace and stability in the state.

“For us as a coalition, we are working voluntarily with other prominent CSOs both in Kano State and around the country to gather intelligence around the key leaders of NNPP, APC PDP and LP in Kano State in the interest of peace and tranquility of the state and Nigeria,” he said.
