The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) funded through a loan facility from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and a grant component from Live and Livelihood Funds (LLF) invested in the development of a sustainable agro-production system in the state, had trained and empowered 45 women groups making a total of 1,125 women processors on improved rice parboiling to upgrade their businesses.
The Country Director, Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), Prof. Sani Miko who stated this during a launch of the agricultural mechanisation and extension services delivery support in Kano, added that six rice mills have been established with improved miller and destoner for smallholder rice millers across six local government areas of the state as a way of encouraging, boosting rice production and ensuring women economic empowerment for a better society.

Managing Director, Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA), Dr Junaidu Yakubu Muhammad said the project had successfully linked 140,000 farmers to agro-dealers and other recognised research institutes as a way to encourage commercial agriculture practices among farmers
Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna stated that the state government will continue to support agriculture and ensure that the project records success.
The items distributed during the event include 244 water pumps, 140 improved planters, 97 rice translators, 45 rice parboiling kits, nine rice mills equipped with destoners, nine hammer mills equipped with Hullers and nine power tillers, 15 maize shellers, six threshers.
