A global leading company in the production and exportation of phosphate-based fertilizers, OCP Africa and Syngenta Foundation have deepen partnership to improved tomato production with a focused on establishment of Greenhouses and input production hubs across tomatoes producing areas as well as the provision of easy access to consistent and quality seedlings, access to modern agricultural technologies, trainings, and guided practices to guarantee uniform outcome of good product fit for commercial purposes.
Speaking during a two-day training workshop for Hub Managers and Agri-promoters OCP Africa’s Head of Business Development and Digital projects Mr Akintunde Akinwande disclosed that so far, 20 Greenhouses have been established across major tomato production areas in Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Abuja, with over 20,000 farmers accessing quality seedlings and inputs.
According to him, at the workshop, the newly recruited Agri-promoters and Hub managers were trained on modern vegetable nursery establishment and management, good agronomic practices of horticulture, retail business and basic inventory management, and on the usage of digital work tools for data capturing and management.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Hub Manager in Makoda local government area of Kano state, Musa Usman said he is ready to effectively put the knowledge he acquired during the training to good and profitable use.
