Kannywood block-buster movie titled ‘Yaki A Soyayya’ has made the list of top 20 films in Nigeria.
‘Yaki A Soyayya’ ranked 17 out of 20 films shown in the cinemas across the country from 28th December, 2018 to 3rd January, 2019.
The list was produced by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, (CEAN) and was released on the official twitter page of CEAN on Wednesday.
The association explained that the ranking was based on the “data-based on provisional information reported on daily participation of the films in the Nigerian cinemas.”
On the list, Daily Trust gathered that ‘Yaki A Soyayya’ was above ‘Creed’ produced by Warner Bros; ‘Call, The’ and Elliot The Littlest Reindeer sponsored by Empire.
Daily Trust also noticed that films like ‘Aquaman’, ‘Chief Daddy’, ‘Up North’, ‘Bumblebee’ and ‘Lion Heart’ were also on the list, occupying first, second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
From the list, ‘Yaki A Soyayya’ has the weekend gross of N722,000 and a 7-day Gross Net of N1, 276, 000.
In her response, the producer of ‘Yaki A Soyayya’, Nafisa Abdullahi said she was excited and glad as her film made it to the top 20 movies in the whole of Nigeria.
She said, “I am excited, honoured and glad as ‘Yaki A Soyayya’ made it to the top 20 movies in the whole of Nigeria; this serves as morale booster for me to come up with a bigger movie. This is a record because it was the first indigenous film to make the list in history.
“The list has shown that my work has been appreciated not only in the north but also in Nigeria as a whole. I am using this medium to thank the cast and the production crew; the success is for all of us, because without them ‘Yaki A Soyayya’ wouldn’t have gone far.”
Nafisa, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nafs Entertainment, also showered accolades on the cinema goers for finding time to visit the cinemas and watched her film.
