Kano based Hausa movie industry, Kannywood, has expressed concern over lack of support and encouragement from government and traditional institutions.

The spokesman of the guild of directors of the entertainment firm, Mr. Usman Mu’azu stated in a chat with Daily Trust in Kano that such lack of support is disincentive to their efforts in preserving the rich Hausa cultural values.

He said the industry has wonderful plans geared towards ending insurgency in the north-eastern part of the country but lack of resources to execute their plans proves a challenge.

‘’You see our elders, I mean both traditional, religious and political leaders are not appreciative of what we are doing, once you identify yourself with Kannywood they begin to think you are wayward and does not have anything good to offer to the society other than immoral behaviour, as a consequence they do not support us to access any financial or any form of assistance from the government as our colleagues in Nollywood do.

‘’As I speak to you we have never received any assistance from either of the northern state governments nor the federal government, all our projects are financed by Kannywood.

‘’We have started working on a film aiming at ending face-off between Christians and Muslims in Plateau, we also have plans for the north-east all these are means of building a peaceful society but the state and federal government are not helping matters’’ Mu’azu added.

He appealed to the traditional and religious leaders to draw them closer in order to understand the challenges they are passing through and to offer advice where necessary.
