Residents of Kankara town in Katsina State yesterday took their protest to the state Government House over increased banditry and cattle rustling.
Many residents have been killed or maimed, women have been raped or kidnapped, just as several animals have been stolen by bandits.
The protesters mainly from Yar-Tsamiya, Tsamiyar Jino and Yar Sante decried government’s attitude towards their plight.
Speaking on behalf of the protestors, a spokesman, Nura Bello, said life had become unbearable for them as a result of the activities of the bandits and called for urgent intervention.
He accused the state governor of not  doing enough to check the situation. However, the Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, said the protesters may have been misled into the protest for some mischievous reasons as the APC administration had committed over N200 million into the fight against cattle rustling.
‘For anybody to say we are not doing anything is wrong, you don’t expect something that has been there for over six years to end suddenly, it has to be a gradual process and we are doing all to check them”, he said.
Inuwa said in as much as they were free to carry out peaceful protest,  they must have genuine reasons for that, noting that government was doing its best to bring the situation under control.
