KAMFEST 2010 ends today

The festival which opened Friday, 26th was aimed at strengthening the cultural relationship between Hausa and French speaking countries as well as strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and France, according to Alain Service, the Director, Alliance Francaise, Kano Office.

 “The festival started in 2004 with the aim of promoting French and Hausa cultures as well as to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the government of France and Nigeria. It is also aimed at amplifying the educational, culture and social interactions between citizens of the two countries,” he said.

The festival brought together musical artistes from France, Chad, Niger Republic as well as indigenous Nigerian musicians. The artistes featuring at the festival include Dangana from Niger, Trio Belhumeur from France, Soubiana from Chad and Maryam Fantimoti, Nasiru Garba Supa and Nigerian Shantu artistes.

Other activities aimed at strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and France include sponsoring artistes to attend cultural festivals in other parts of the world as well as French classes for interested citizens at the Alliance Francaise, the Director added.

Service further commended the Kano State government for the support rendered to the French office through the History and Culture bureau over the years. He further expressed his gratitude to the patron of Alliance Francaise in Kano, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero for his guidance to the French office in the state. In attendance were dignitaries from Niger, Chad, France and Nigeria.
