A member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli has urged the national U-20 boy’s football team, the Flying Eagles not to rest on their oars even after their victorious outing in Niamey.

The coach Ladan Bosso-led team on Friday night emerged champions of the West Africa B Zone when they defeated the Young Squirrels of Benin Republic 3-1 in the final of the WAFU B U-20 Championship.

They had also qualified for the 2023 Junior AFCON in Egypt after beating arch-rivals Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the semi-finals to book the final clash with the Benin Republic.

Tolulope Ojo who plays for Remo Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League scored a brace while Ibrahim Muhammad of Maikunkele FC sealed victory for the Flying Eagles with the third goal.

Nigeria and Benin Republic will fly the WAFU B zone’s flag at the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Speaking to Daily Trust on Sunday, Kalli who is also the Chairman of Borno State Football Association congratulated the players and the team’s technical crew for a job well done.

He, however, said since they have a bigger tournament ahead of them, they shouldn’t go to sleep.

Kalli also said the victory was made possible by the immense support the Amaju Pinnick led board provided for the team from preparation to participate in the championship.

“I want to join other Nigerians in congratulating the players and members of the coaching crew. They have put smiles on the faces of millions of Nigerians, especially football stakeholders.

“They have to keep the momentum as they prepare for the 2023 AFCON in Egypt,” said the ex- Nigerian junior international.
