Residents of Kagara village in Rafi local government area of Niger state protested against the Divisional Police Officer for his inability to mobilize his men to counter a bandit attack.
In the attack on Wednesday, bandits killed five people and kidnapped 15 others.
Another 15 people sustained injuries from shooting by bandits invading the town.
Residents returning early Thursday staged a protest, calling on police authorities to change the divisional police officer for failing to mobilise his officers to counter the bandits.
The residents alleged that the policemen threatened to deal with them if they refused to disperse from the station.
Two among the kidnapped victims escaped from their captives, shortly after they were taken away from the town.
A witness said the bandits took time firing gun shots on the residents before grouping themselves into three.
“One of the groups was charged with robbing the bank while the other two groups moved from house to house robbing and kidnapping people.
The entire episode was said to have lasted until eleven in the night.
Many of the residents of Sabon Abuja in Kagara, deserted their houses and passed the night in the bush.
It was gathered that a team of policemen, including the Rafi Local Government Chairman, Ismail Modibbo, were in Kagara town to under study the situation.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa has condemned the attack on Kagara.
Musa in a statement described the attack on the First Bank in the area and on innocent members of his constituency as rather unfortunate.
