The Council of Imams and Ulama in Kaduna State have expressed worry over the rising cases of kidnapping and abduction in the country and called on the new service chiefs to develop a comprehensive and realistic strategy to end all criminal activities.
The concern of the council followed the recent attack on Government Science College, Kagara in Niger State, where staff and students of the school were abducted by bandits last week.
Arewa Trust Weekly recalls that hundreds of boys were in December 2020 abducted from the Government Science School Kankara in Katsina state but were released six days later.
The Secretary General of the council, Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, in a statement, said the council was shocked and dismayed over the rising spate of kidnapping and abduction in the country saying the Kankara abduction should have served as a lesson for government and security agencies to abate future occurrence.
“The security agencies have to strategise and see how they can build community confidence at the grassroots to assist in intelligence gathering. The council calls on Nigerians to unite under one front to defend their country against these criminal elements.”
He then urged the Ulama to intensify prayers and preach peace and harmony for the development in the country.
