Kaduna youths empowered as financial service hubs

Kaduna state government in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has empowered 50 youths selected from the 23 local government areas of the state as financial service hubs for their various communities.

The youths, which also included four persons with disabilities were trained on agency banking as well as equipped with gender and social inclusion knowledge so as to serve as gender ambassadors in their various communities.

Speaking at the third Women Economic Empowerment Summit in Kaduna where the 50 ambassadors, named ‘KAINUWA gender ambassadors’ were unveiled, the commissioner for women affairs and social development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba said the aim of the training was to give gender responsiveness skills to young men and women to build better awareness of women’s rights.

She added that the training  was aimed at building gender-mentor cohort spread across the 23LGAs of the state as well as to empower same youths as financial service hubs.

She said this year’s summit seeks to build on the efforts of the state government in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal Five (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) as well as to stimulate gender knowledge in youths towards achieving gender equity and women empowerment.

While she recalled that Kaduna was the first state in Nigeria to launch the local SDGs data and strategy development for implementation, she noted that the state development plan is strategically poised to achieve inclusive economic growth and social-economic transformation that translates into substantial improvements in the quality of lives of citizens, through higher productivity and competitiveness.

The deputy governor of Kaduna state, Architect Barnabas Bantex who represented Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the event harped on achieving the SDG five in the state. He urged the Kainuwa gender ambassadors to keep the state in focus.
