Kaduna witnesses second Kabafest

Literary, arts and culture enthusiasts have converged on Nigeria’s Centre of Learning, Kaduna for second edition of the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival (Kabafest).
The festival which is holding at Kaduna’s Silversand Hotel Unguwar Sarki. began on September 5 and ends today. It features writers, poets, musical artistes as well as other forms of creative art.
The fiesta festival will serve as a platform where state and cultural organization, show case their culture, expose talent and through these promote unity and encourage tourism in the state.
The maiden edition featured the likes of Daily Trust’s Abubakar Adam Ibrahim (Seasons of Crimsons Blossom), Toni Kan (The Carnivorous City) and Sudan’s Leila Aboulela (The Translator). This year attractions include the screening of three movies, ‘Swallow,’ by the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, ‘Alias Story’ by Nuhu Dalyop and ‘Uprooted’ by Ummi Bukar.
Organisers describe the fiesta as Northern Nigeria’s first and only literary fête of this which also aims to change perceptions of the region, while boosting access to literacy and reading. Kabafest also aims to reignite a passion for arts and culture in the state and to create more safe spaces where cultural and literary enthusiasts can gather to dialogue about books, culture and ideas.
The Kaduna State government is organising the festival in partnership with the Book Buzz Foundation, which is in line with its ‘Creative Arts Programme,’ an initiative, the state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, said, “is devoted to nurturing, promoting and celebrating the creative potential of our people. It is a manifest commitment of this government to support the arts creatively and our creatives themselves.”
