Kaduna villagers flee on sighting bandits

Residents of Janjala and Gidan-Makeri communities in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State fled their homes upon sighting bandits in a convoy of motorcycles.

City & Crime reports that the communities came under attack last Saturday in which a man and his 16-year-old son were reportedly killed and 15 others abducted in Gidan-Makeri.

A resident of Janjala, Shuaibu Ibrahim, who spoke with our reporter through telephone on Wednesday, said residents, mostly women and children, fled their homes between Sunday and Tuesday.

He said the villagers upon sighting the bandits numbering over 100 on motorcycles took to their heels, adding that the same locals were in disarray when the air force jet was bombarding a forest near them in neighbouring Kachia LGA.

He further said, “As I am talking to you, I am in Kagarko with my family as we also fled our home in Janjala on Sunday, but I learnt this morning that troops were deployed to the area on Tuesday evening.”

Another resident of Janjala, Zubairu Yahaya, who also escaped to Kagarko town with his family, said he was forced to flee his house along with his family over fear of being kidnapped by the bandits.

Our reporter learnt that the bandits, who were escaping on their motorcycles through the bush, were heading towards the Jere axis.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansur Hassan, did not pick calls or reply to a text message sent to him over the development.
